Our Story

MAI Sushi Tapas & Bar was co-founded by Khoa Duong and Chef Alfred Toita. They were co-workers in a Corporate Sushi restaurant in Seattle and share the same passion in Japanese food. For Alfred, traveling and exploring flavors from different cultures is his passion as he prides himself in incorporating diverse and non-traditional ingredients and MAI Sushi & Tapas is the culmination of his years of expertise in seeking out and serving the finest dish. Vietnamese-born General Manager/Owner Khoa was immersed in hospitality and food service at a very young age. Being a GM pushed Khoa to explore his skills as a restaurant entrepreneur, which led to the birth of MAI . Inspired by Alfred’s meticulous skill of work, Khoa felt responsible for bringing and devoting the best Japanese tapas, hospitality, and service to the area of this beautiful city Coral Gables.
